The Louvre

Exterior

This was my 3rd visit to the Louvre. Tom and I came here in the winter of 2002 and Randy and I visited the Louvre in the Spring of 2002. When I first visited the palace I hated the glass pyramid, but I've grown to like it. One of the great successes of Paris is the ability to not stagnate. Cities such as Venice have become museums in themselves, where nothing changes and the city is locked into a bygone era. In Paris you will often find modern art in old churches and buildings. At first it seems a bit out of place, this vital part of keeping the arts alive while retaining the great works of the past.

Interior

Randy and I didn't have much time so we mostly confined our visit to the sculptures in the Denon Wing. Even though this was my third trip to the museum I still managed to get turned around. I think part of it is my fear of getting lost in the Egyption sections (which I did on my first visit). Anytime I get near anything that looks vaguely Egyption I want to turn around and try a different route.
